LOS ANGELES – Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Alumni, in collaboration with Abril Bookstore, the Armenian Education Benevolent Union, Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, and the Armenian Relief Society, is pleased to present a special community lecture and book signing event featuring Dr. Houri Berberian and Dr. Talinn Grigor.
Join us on Saturday, March 8, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM PST at 3347 N. San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90065, as these esteemed scholars discuss their groundbreaking new book, “The Armenian Woman & the Making of Iranian Modernity”.
This pioneering work presents the first comprehensive history of Armenian women in modern Iran, emphasizing the pivotal role of Armenian women’s organizations. Berberian and Grigor explore the complex dynamics of minoritarian politics and the evolving relationships between Armenian women, Iranian power structures, and patriarchal institutions within the Armenian church and political organizations.
Blending archival, textual, visual, and oral history sources, the authors challenge conventional historical narratives, transforming silences and absences into visible and audible presences. Their work offers a profound contribution to discussions on modernization, nationalism, and feminism, reshaping how we understand the histories of women, minoritized communities, and the Armenian diaspora.
