Dilijan to Be Transformed into a Major Tourist Hub

YEREVAN — An attractive tourism environment must be created in Dilijan, according to Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.

“Dilijan has historically developed as a tourism cluster, but it is clear that the city needs to be elevated to an entirely new level. In this regard, further infrastructure investments are of great importance. The government is also investing through subsidy programs,” Papoyan stated during a discussion in Dilijan on the City Development Vision Report. The event was part of the “Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Improvement Program (TRIP),” a project being implemented in partnership with the World Bank.

The minister highlighted the importance of collaborative discussions to chart actions for the development of the Dilijan community.

The discussion was attended by Hayk Galumyan, Governor of the Tavush region; Lusine Gevorgyan, head of the Armenian Tourism Committee; David Sargsyan, Mayor of Dilijan; representatives of relevant organizations; and investors.

It was previously reported that the World Bank plans to provide $100 million to Armenia for the creation of tourism clusters in communities such as Areni, Jermuk, Goris, Dvin, Gyumri, Aparan, Yeghegis, Sevan, and Dilijan.

The TRIP program, scheduled to run from 2025 to 2029, aims to enhance the viability of territories and communities involved in the clusters, boost tourism appeal, and stimulate additional income and economic growth for local communities.
