Srbuhi Galyan Appointed Armenia’s Justice Minister

YEREVAN — President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed a decree appointing Srbuhi Galyan as Minister of Justice.

Galyan was nominated for the post by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan last week. Her appointment was formally confirmed by the President.

Galian, 32, previously served as deputy prosecutor general overseeing the coordination of functions related to illegal property confiscation. She took on this role in September 2020 after a year-long tenure as deputy minister of justice. From 2015 to 2019, Galyan worked at Armenia’s Investigation Service.

Her appointment comes after the resignation of former justice minister Grigor Minasyan on October 1. Minasian stepped down a week after more than a dozen pro-government lawmakers signed a petition calling on PM Pashinyan to sack him.

Reports indicate that Galyan was selected from a shortlist of five candidates, which included Armenia’s representative for international legal issues Yeghishe Kirakosyan and former acting chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan.
