PARIS — Varazdat Lalayan won the silver medal in the Heavy category (+102kg ) at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games held in Paris, lifting a total of 467 kg. Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain, won the bronze medal with a total of 461 kg, while Lasha Talakhadze claimed the Olympic champion title with a total of 470 kg.
As always, the main competition in the heavyweight category was among Armenian weightlifters Varazdat Lalayan and Gor Minasyan (Bahrain) and Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze.
Lalayan made two successful attempts in the snatch, lifting 215 kg above his head. Gor Minasyan successfully lifted 216 kg, taking first place in the snatch, while Talakhadze placed second with a lift of 215 kg.
In the clean and jerk, Lalayan made two successful attempts, lifting 252 kg. Gor Minasyan managed only one successful lift, at 245 kg, while Lasha Talakhadze lifted 255 kg.
Earlier, in the 102 kg category, weightlifter Garik Karapetyan placed fourth with a total of 398 kg (186 + 212 kg).
Andranik Karapetyan, competing in the 89 kg category, finished in seventh place with a total of 370 kg (170 + 200 kg) in the combined lifts.
The Armenian Olympic team has won four medals in total. Gymnast Artur Davtyan and wrestler Artur Aleksanyan both secured silver medals, while wrestler Malkhas Amoyan won a bronze.
