THE VATICAN — Amid Azerbaijan’s attempts to falsify Armenian history, the Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See, Boris Sahakyan, met with Andrea Monda, the director and editor-in-chief of the Vatican’s “L’Osservatore Romano” newspaper.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Embassy, during the meeting, they discussed further cooperation in popularizing Armenia’s rich historical, cultural, and Christian heritage, which is part of the common Christian heritage, and raising awareness of the threats it faces.
In this regard, it was emphasized how important it is to never distort the originality of cultural heritage, religious buildings, and historical facts that are indisputable and recognized by the international community, including the scientific community.
“L’Osservatore Romano” recently published an article titled “A Khudavang, Ganjasar e Khatiravang Monasteri tra le nuvole” (meaning “Dadivank, Gandzasar, and Khatiravank Monasteries in the Clouds”), where the exceptional Armenian monuments, Dadivank, Gandzasar, and Khatiravank, are presented as Caucasian Albanian heritage. The author of the article, Rossella Fabiani, writes about her visits to Azerbaijan and notes that she visited “Garabagh” and got acquainted with the famous monasteries of Albanian heritage.
In the article, the author talks about her so-called research and educational visit to “Caucasian Albania,” which was actually to Artsakh. Referring to some local researchers, she spreads and confirms the hypothesis of Armenians arriving in the region, stating that they came to Azerbaijani lands from Iran and Turkey. Additionally, it states that local Armenians forced the Udis to renounce their faith and become followers of the Apostolic Church.
Azerbaijan has succeeded in making the Vatican an involuntary participant in its cultural purging (cultural genocide).
