Armenia Ranks 56th in Networked Readiness Index

YEREVAN (Armenpress) — According to “The Global Information Technology Report 2016” released by the World Economic Forum, Armenia ranks 56th among the world’s 139 countries in the Networked Readiness Index. According to the report presented by the “Economy and Values” Research Center, Armenia improved its position by 2 points compared to last year.

Armenia mainly improved its position with the pillar of access due to the broadband Internet and the mobile prepaid tariff reduction. Armenia’s scores are significantly higher compared to the results of countries from low to average incomes. One of the most significant advantages is the high level of the competitiveness in telephone and the Internet industry, as well as the mobile phone coverage.

Another important advantage is the ease of the main processes related to the registration of enterprises, as well as the high rate of literacy and in general the low taxes.

One of the most problematic sectors is the implementation of agreements, the level of staff training and the low quality of management schools. The public procurement of the leading technologies and the usage of them by business continue remaining within Armenia’s defects. Armenia’s position didn’t change in terms of components.

The CIS countries, Ukraine and Georgia have achieved progress except Russia the position of which remained the same. The most significant progress has been achieved in Ukraine (+7). Azerbaijan improved its position by 4 points, and ranks the 53rd in the ratings, and Georgia improved its position by 2 points, and ranks the 58th place.

According to the WEF assessments, Singapore, Finland and Sweden continue remaining in the leading places in the Networked Readiness Index. Norway and the US are included in the first five places of the Index. The report assessed the IT competitiveness of 139 countries.

The report is based on the Networked Readiness Index which demonstrates the countries’ level of readiness to participate in and use the developments of the information and communication technologies which in its turn contribute to the increase in competitiveness.
