Ambassador Melkonian Meets with Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Egypt

CAIRO — On July 27, the Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt Armen Melkonian met with Mohamed El-Orabi, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, the former Foreign Minister of Egypt.

Expressing gratitude for the meeting, Ambassador Melkonian presented to the Chairman El-Orabi the priorities of the foreign policy of Armenia, particularly the joint efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs aimed at the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the process of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the contribution of Armenia in international fight for the prevention of the crime of Genocide, the position and approaches of Armenia on different regional and international issues.

The sides stressed the importance of practical steps towards the strengthening of the inter-parliamentary ties between Armenia and Egypt.

On Tuesday, Independent Egyptian MP Mostafa Bakri and 336 other MPs called on parliament to approve a draft resolution in favor of recognizing the death of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman state in 1915 as a Genocide.

They called on the Parliament to hold a special session on this subject because it was a crime of mass extermination that should be condemned by all world parliaments.
