Ambassador Grigor Hovhannissian Excludes Major Armenian American Organizations

Recently, the above photo was posted on the Facebook page of the Embassy of Armenia to the United States in Washington DC.

The photo was captioned “As independent #Armenia Turns 25 this year, we hosted Armenian American leaders 2 discuss the upcoming celebrations.”

To the dismay of many, it appears that not all major Armenian American organizations were invited to the meeting. Among those excluded from the meeting were two Armenian traditional parties; Social Democrat Hunchakian Party and Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (Ramgavar).

This blatant display of favoritism towards only some Armenian American organizations is discouraging and surprising, especially since in his capacity as the Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, the current Ambassador Grigor Hovhannissian, should have developed a better understanding of the Armenian American community.

In our opinion, this is not the proper way to organize and unite the Armenian American community in marking the 25th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia. This type of divisive action further divides our community and is counterproductive to the progress and development of a cohesive, effective and strong Armenian Diaspora.
