One-Woman Show Shake the Earth to be Presented at Abril Bookstore

GLENDALE — After two sold-out shows in the NoHo Arts District, New York writer/performer Lousine Shamamian is bringing her explosive one-woman show Shake the Earth to Abril Bookstore – 415 E. Broadway, Glendale, CA on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20, available at Abril Bookstore and on itsmyseat.com.

Shake The Earth had its world premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival in August 2015 and received rave reviews. The show hinges on the tension between Armenian and gay pride. Bolstered by kufta and string cheese, Lousine yearns to be a good Armenian and defender of her ancestors who survived the Genocide. But, as a lesbian, she may be the last person her great-grandfather Georgi would want to give the account of his remarkable story of survival. Driven by the 100th anniversary of the Genocide, and the Turkish government’s aggressive denials, Lousine finds the courage to speak.

Lousine Shamamian was born in Armenia and raised in Brooklyn. Her theatre debut was as Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance (2nd grade). Future roles included Mother Armenia in the Tekeyan production of the Armenian-language play Where Are You Going, Fellow Armenians? For the last 3 years she has been doing standup at comedy clubs throughout NYC including Gotham, The Stand, Eastville, and Broadway Comedy Club. She created a comedy web series called L ousine: Lesbian Matchmaker To The Straights, and was featured in an episode of MTV’s Inside Joke featuring comedian Mark Normand. She received her BA from Hollins University with a major in Film/Television, and is currently an editor on the hit reality show Mob Wives.
