Armenian MP Elected PACE Vice-President

STRASBOURG — (Tert.am) — The Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) on Monday elected the head of Armenia’s delegation as Vice-President.

Hermine Naghdalyan (Republican Party of Armenia) will hold the post until the Assembly’s next session.

Nineteen other delegates, representing Poland, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, Georgia, Denmark, Andorra, Hungary, Macedonia, the Netherlands, France and Norway, were elected to similar posts at the opening of the Assembly’s Winter Session on Monday.

The seats for the Vice-Presidents in respect of the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and Spain remain vacant, according to a statement on the Assembly’s official website.

Earlier on Monday, the Assembly elected Spaniard Pedro Agramunt (EPP/CD) as its president for a mandate of one year. The politician, who is known for his pro-Azerbaijani views, was nominated by the European People’s Party. No other candidacies were fielded. Argamunt is a member of the Senate of Spain from Valencia.

Twenty Vice-Presidents are elected annually at the beginning of an ordinary session and remain in office until the opening of the next session (but a Vice-President whose delegation is renewed in the course of a session does not remain in office).
