US Post Office Building Named After Colonel George Juskalian

WASHINGTON, DC (News.am) — The US House of Representatives unanimously approved H. R. 6392, legislation introduced by Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) and supported by the entire Congressional delegation from the US State of Virginia.

The resolution proposes to designate the facility of the US Postal Service located at 5003 Westfields Boulevard in Centreville, Virginia, as the “Colonel George Juskalian Post Office Building,” in honor of Colonel Juskalian’s distinguished military career and dedication to public service, informed the Embassy of Armenia in Washington D.C.

Colonel Juskalian passed away on July 4, 2010 and was buried with full honors in Arlington National Cemetery on October 19, 2010.

Colonel Juskalian, a longtime Centreville resident, was one of the most highly decorated American Armenian veterans to ever serve in the US military.

During his nearly 30-year career, Col. Juskalian was the recipient of the US Army’s highest awards,

Juskalian was a prominent figure in the Armenian community. He served at the local St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church and the Diocesan Council of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America. He served on the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, and subsequently for a ten-year term on its Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s Central Committee of America and the Armenian Assembly of America.

He helped organize a memorial service for Armenian American veterans at the Arlington National Cemetery on May 21, 1978, where the graves of forty-nine Armenian American veterans, spanning the period from the Spanish–American War to the Vietnam War, were decorated with carnations.
