Cher Urges Turkish Government to Recognize Armenian Genocide

Armenian American singer and actress Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) has urged the Turkish government to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The 68-year-old celebrity said that in a Twitter post.

“I don’t feel anger for (or blame) the people of Turkey for something that happened 100 year ago. But I think the [Turkish] Government should acknowledge Genocide,” she tweeted.

Cher also shared a “horror story” her grandmother told her. “The Turks came to the village, they called a town meeting and shot the men and boys and raped the women and girls,” she wrote in the post.

In March 2014, the singer joined the Save Kessab campaign to draw international attention to the plight of Christian Armenians in the Syrian town of Kessab.
