Kuwait Donates 100,000 Dollar to Armenia for Humanitarian Aid to Syrian Refugees


YEREVAN — On December 26, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kuwait to Armenia, H.E. Bassam Mohammad Al-Qabandi and Director of the “Coordination Center for Syrian-Armenians’ Issues” Lena Halajian signed an agreement.
Kuwait has allocated 5 million dollars to provide support to Syrians who have settled in different countries due to the crisis in Syria. By the decision of the Kuwaiti government, the International Benevolence International Foundation has allocated 100,000 dollars to show support to Syrian-Armenians in Armenia.
The needs of Syrian-Armenians in Armenia have been studied and assessed through the combined efforts of the Benevolence International Foundation and the Kuwaiti Embassy and with the support of the “Coordination Center for Syrian-Armenians’ Issues” NGO. The employees of the Kuwaiti Embassy have observed and found the supermarket with the most affordable prices for Syrian-Armenians. It has been decided to provide 1,000 families with Armenian dram cards worth 20,000 drams. The cards were granted to representatives of the “Coordination Center for Syrian-Armenians’ Issues” NGO during a meeting with journalists and Syrian-Armenians at the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti Ambassador for his consistent and heartfelt activities and mentioned that the support was the Kuwaiti government’s expression of political will. Hranush Hakobyan assured that the cards would be distributed to the Syrian-Armenian families most in need ahead of the New Year.
In response to the words of gratitude, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Armenia Bassam Mohammad Al-Qabandi mentioned:”it is our duty to help, regardless of race and religion”.
On behalf of Syrian-Armenians in Armenia, Director of the “Coordination Center for Syrian-Armenians’ Issues” NGO Lena Halajian expressed gratitude for the care and attention that Syrian-Armenians need so much.
