Mikheil Saakashvili: The Enemies of Azerbaijan Are Enemies of Georgia

YEREVAN — Modern-day Georgia continues the same policy on Armenia as Menshevist Georgia used to pursue in 1918-1920s with Georgian President’s recent statement proving the fact, a Doctor of Political Sciences Levon Shirinyan stated.
As the expert told a news conference in Yerevan, now, like in 1920s, Georgia is trying to benefit from Armenia’s hardships, by securing concessions in many issues.
Shirinyan slammed Armenia’s policy on Georgia, as well as Foreign Ministry’s passivity regarding Saakashvili’s statement. As he noted, current situation testifies to failure of Armenia’s Georgia-related policy. The expert denied suppositions which suggested the statement might be directed against Russia, rather than Armenia, noting that Georgian President’s statement also insulted Georgia-residing Armenians.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili had stated in an interview with The Business Year magazine, the 20th edition of which was dedicated to Azerbaijan’s 20th anniversary, “Georgia and Azerbaijan from the viewpoint of geography and joint history must stand together. We share common viewpoints and have close ties. I’m sure that by standing together, our countries will create the best future. Our countries face serous problems regarding unsettled conflicts and each opponent of Georgia and Azerbaijan is our countries’ enemy. Our power is in unity and these are not just words, this is the reality.”
