On April 19, 2012, the Library of Congress will open the exhibition “‘To Know Wisdom and Instruction’: The Armenian Literary Tradition at the Library of Congress” to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first Armenian printing press and book at Venice in 1512 and the designation of Yerevan, Armenia, as UNESCO’s Book Capital of the World 2012. The exhibition will be on view 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, through July 12, 2012, in the Thomas Jefferson Building located at 10 First Street S.E., Washington, D.C.

The exhibition and accompanying book, “‘To Know Wisdom and Instruction’: The Armenian Collections of the Library of Congress,” will feature the Near East Section’s collection of manuscripts, fabrics and printed books as well as items from the Library’s other custodial divisions.

  1. Is attending the opening of exhibit on April 19 by invitation only? Is there a plan for speakers throughout the event? Is there a more detailed program for the three-month exhibit? How many books will be on display? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
