Assemblyman Mike Gatto and Fellow Legislators Introduce Resolution Denouncing Armenian Genocide

Sacramento- Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles) announces the introduction of Assembly Joint Resolution 2, a measure declaring April 24th, 2011 “California Day of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.” The measure also strongly urges Congress and the President of the United States to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“I worked to co-author this measure to maintain the pressure on all parties, domestic or international who try to deny the tragic events of 1915-1923,” said Gatto.

“The crimes committed against the Armenian people by the Ottoman Turks must never be forgotten,” continued Gatto. “Once again, the largest state in the United States is tasked with reminding the world of these events. We call upon the nation as a whole to stand with us and do the same.”

“I will continue to stand up as someone who represents in the Legislature a large population of Armenian descent, and also as a friend who truly appreciates the cultural and economic contributions the Armenian people have made to the entire state of California.”
