This year will mark the 96th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. UYA has organized its annual youth rally and candlelight vigil to honor the memory of the slaughtered men, women, and children of the Armenian Genocide.

It will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2011 , at 7:45PM in Glendale , CA , in the parking lot of the Glendale Civic Auditorium, located at: 1401 North Verdugo Road. Numerous guest speakers have confirmed, including key political figures currently serving the City of Glendale. Scheduled to perform on stage are popular singers and musicians from the community. During the event, UYA will hold an art and photography contest focused on this year’s theme, “MARCH FOR JUSTICE.” The artwork will be judged by those in attendance and the winner will have his/her work displayed on stage during the Armenian Genocide Protest March the following morning, Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Little Armenia, Hollywood, CA.

Denial of the Armenian Genocide by the United States of America and the descendants of the perpetrators, the Republic of Turkey , is unacceptable to all Armenians. UYA’s mission is to once again awaken the memories of those who perished as a result of the atrocities in 1915 and to implore the Armenian-American community as well as the entire human race to stand up for victims of genocides of past and present. The organization’s primary focus, however, is the immediate recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Although 96 years have passed since the Armenian Genocide, the theme reminds everyone that we shall never forget, that justice for this cause will be obtained by the participation of the masses, and that it will prevail only when guilt is recognized.

UYA is a non-partisan, non-religious and a non-profit grassroots youth organization. Its goal is to encourage activism among the Armenian youth, while advocating justice and human rights. It upholds the power of knowledge and education. UYA’s mission is to serve the collective good and to promote a world free of genocides.
