On November 11, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II attended the opening ceremony of a monument to late Catholicos Vazgen I.
The initiative belongs to co-chair of the Armenia-Russia inter-parliamentary cooperation committee, Nikolai Ryzhkov, who visited Yerevan to take part in the ceremony. The sculptor is Friedrich Soghoyan.
Delegates of the Armenian-Russian Inter-parliamentary Committee, clergymen, Governor of Armavir region Ashot Ghahramanyan, Etchmiadzin Mayor Karen Grigoryan and other officials, as well as Etchmiadzin citizens were present.
His Holiness Vazgen I (1908 -1994) headed the Armenian Apostolic Church for almost 40 years, between 1955 and 1994, and was ardently loved and revered among people.
